The Founder
About Tina Margareta Nilssen
Tina is the author of “Unleashing the potential of the musicians’ body”, the founder of the Musicians’ Health and Movement Institute (MHMI) and the creator of the movement system, Timani, which develops a deep understanding of the body to support musical technique and musical performance.
Since 2007, she has taught Timani to thousands of musicians from all over the world. At the MHMI, she established a three-year, part-time certification program for professional musicians, training them to become Timani teachers.
Tina’s background in anatomy and movement comes from her studies as a massage therapist (Axelsons), personal trainer (Norwegian Sports Academy), Kinetic Control Movement Therapist, and advanced certified yoga teacher – amongst other.
She began her university studies at NTNU Institute of Music with Jørgen Larsen. After graduating from Barratt Due Music Institute (Prof. Jiri Hlinka), she took a Master’s degree at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo (Prof. Jens Harald Bratlie) with a year’s Erasmus exchange program at the University of Arts in Berlin (Prof. Heide Görtz).
Tina has performed solo and duet recitals in Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, England, the USA, Moscow, Italy, New York, and Philadelphia amongst other venues. As a concerto soloist, she has performed piano concertos by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, and Gershwin and played at numerous music festivals and concert series.
She has released four critically-acclaimed CDs on the record company 2L – three with the Dena Piano Duo and one solo recording. The duo recordings include almost all of Mozart’s and Grieg’s works for two pianos as well as works by Brahms, Saint-Saëns, Wolfgang Plagge, and Terje Bjørklund. Her solo CD features the Grieg piano sonata in E-minor, five pieces by Signe Lund, and Beethoven’s “Appassionata” sonata.
As a pianist, Tina has received a number of grants and awards including the two-year Norwegian artist’s working grant from the Norwegian Arts Council, Jansons Fund, RWE-Dea, and various grants from the Norwegian Fund for Performing Artists.

Pianist
As a classical pianist, Tina has her Masters Degree from The Norwegian Academy of Music (Prof. Jens Harald Bratlie). Her studies also include a Bachelor from NTNU-Institute of Music (Jørgen Larsen), Barratt Due Music institute (Prof. Jiri Hlinka) and a one-year ERASMUS study during her Masters Degree at the University of Arts, Berlin (Prof. Heide Görtz). She has released a solo recording with music by Beethoven, Lund and Grieg as well as three internationally renowned CD’s with the Dena Piano Duo on the record label 2L, and has performed in most European countries and the USA.

Education
Tina is trained as a Massage Therapist (Axelsons Body Work School), Personal Trainer, Mind Detox Practitioner (MDM Academy), and has learned Psychosomatic body work (Gabor Dalnoki). She has done two yoga teacher training trainings (Jules Mitchell and Virya Yoga) with emphasis on biomechanics, and a course in kinaesthesia for pianists (Prof. Heide Görtz), Kinetic Control certification (The Movement Performance Solution), Brainspotting Phase 1, 2, 3 og Master Class (David Grand) and attended additional courses on biomechanics and body work.
