TIMANI WORKSHOP – PUST FOR BLÅSERE OG SANGERE

TIMANI WORKSHOPS:

BREATHING FOR WINDS & SINGERS

DATE: 23rd MARCH - 5th APRIL, 2020

TIME: TBA

TEACHER: CHRISTINE ELIZABETH CLANCY

*Course is taught in English*

Access to controlled breath is necessary to play a wind instrument or sing, so most musicians receive some kind of instruction on breath and support during their education. This well-intentioned advice is too often based on intuited experience or inaccurate anatomy. For many, this can lead to misinterpretation and in turn confusion, reduced sound quality, injury, and/or unnecessary stress. This workshop combines knowledge of the relevant anatomy with musician-specific exercises to help musicians perform more optimally with more freedom.

This 3 hour workshop includes:
What anatomical structures are involved in breathing and support, and how they are relevant for musicians.
Different types of breathing patterns or coordinations as well as their advantages/disadvantages in relation to making music.
How the rest of the body can support the coordination of optimal breathing and support and why relaxing is not necessarily the best thing for musicians.
Exercises to activate muscles supporting optimal breath or deactivate compensatory muscles that inhibit it, as well as the opportunity to observe the effects of these exercises on performance.
